Washington DC, May 26th, 2017 – This week marks the 90th anniversary for Marriott International. Now the largest hotel chain in the world, it is hard to believe that it originated as an A&W Root Beer stand.
In 1927 J. Willard Marriott founded that root beer stand which later grew into the Hot Shoppes Restaurant chain and evolved into today’s Marriott International hotel company.
To commemorate 90 incredible years, Marriott International has partnered with Scoops2u for an unforgettable anniversary celebration.
Scoops2u has custom wrapped an ice cream truck and carts with Marriott’s unique design and has been touring Marriott properties throughout the DC area this week. And the best part…they’re serving up free root beer floats made with premium homemade ice cream and none other than A&W Root Beer!

Phish Merriweather 2014
Phish was one of our favorite concerts that we attended at Merriweather Post Pavilion last summer. We were so excited when we learned that they will be performing not one, but TWO nights at MPP this summer season! The band will be live in Columbia, MD on August 15 & 16. Free Ice Cream Fridays

Free Ice Cream Fridays
This summer SCOOPS2U is teaming up with HOT99.5 to bring you Free Ice Cream Fridays! Every week we will be at a different location in the DMV. The ice cream drops will take place from 12:00-12:30 pm. There will be a live radio broadcast and a DJ from HOT99.5 will be handing out free ice cream novelty bars from our truck!
The first Free Ice Cream Friday at Microstrategy in Tysons Corner, VA was a big success; Toby Knapp helped us hand out 300 ice cream novelty bars in less than 30 minutes! Elizabethany joined us for the second Free Ice Cream Friday in Rockville, MD. She had everyone screaming for free ice cream! Toby and his daughter joined us the Friday before the 4th of July as we celebrated America’s freedom with free popsicles at the Lakelands Community in Gaithersburg. Erick from the Kane Show was with us on 7/10 at Leido’s in Reston! On 7/17, we surprised the staff at Cropp Metcalfe in Fairfax with Elizabethany! EB joined us again on 7/24 when we treated Ratner Companies in Vienna to free ice cream! The following Friday we visited the beautiful Ballston buildings owned by Lincoln Properties in Arlington.
On 8/7, Free Ice Cream Friday took place at the Silverline Center in Mclean VA! Elizabethany brought out her stilts and had everyone jumping for free ice cream, even her father who happens to work in the building! The following week we spread joy to the patients and staff at Children’s National Hospital in NW DC!
Two weeks ago we dropped by Amp Pike & Rose in the North Bethesda/Rockville area with Intern John from The Kane Show. Last week’s Free Ice Cream event was on Saturday at the Overlee Pool in Arlington! This week Danni from The Kane Show will be joining us for the last Free Ice Cream event of the season. We will be treating the NVCC Annandale campus this Friday, 9/4 at 12pm!

JDRF Real Estate Games

2015 JDRF Real Estate Games with SCOOPS2UThe Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation hosted their 26th annual Real Estate Games, an Olympic-style sporting event on June 4 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at American University! The 2,400+ competitors consisted of individuals that work in the commercial real estate industry such as property managers, developers, engineers, brokers, contractors and architects. Clark Construction, HITT Contracting and CBRE were the three victorious companies at the 2015 Real Estate Games!
 
SCOOPS2U at JDRF Real Estate GamesIn 2014, the JDRF Real Estate Games raised over $430,000 for type 1 diabetes research. With the support of over 120 companies, this year’s games has raised  over $480,000…a JDRF record!
SCOOPS2U has been a proud sponsor of the games for 15 years! Every year we reward the participants by providing complimentary breakfast and ice cream!

The Ice Cream Race [Interview with Race Founder]

Northern Virginia families should mark their calendars for The Ice Cream Race on June 27, 2015!
Ice Cream Race CostumesThe Ice Cream Race is the sweetest family 5k event in the DC/MD/VA region. This year’s event will occur at Bull Run Park in Centreville, VA. We recently had a chance to meet with the race’s founder and find out more information about what to expect at this summer’s exciting event!
Max Bawarski has been organizing fun family 5k races for the past 4 years. He is the founder of The Ice Cream Race as well as the Blood and Guts Run. Running has been a passion of his since he was in grade school.
SCOOPS2U: “Do any of the race proceeds go to charity?”
Max: “A portion of the profits of The Ice Cream Race will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphona in 2006, so I feel that it is my duty to donate money every year to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.”
SCOOPS2U: “What will be different in this year’s race compared to last year?”
Ice Cream Race Foam FunMax: “This year’s race will be a little different because we are adding a lot of new obstacles. Some of the new obstacles include: a cargo net, inflatable obstacle course, inflatable Slip N Slide and more! I am personally most excited about our new inflatable obstacles.”
SCOOPS2U: “What can race participants win?”
Max: “All race participants will receive a free tee shirt and ice cream. Participants can also win prizes at the after party for wildest costume. We will reward a cash prize to the fastest male and female of the first race. The first race of the day is at 8 am and this is our only competitive wave.”
SCOOPS2U: “Will there be other attractions at the race?”
SCOOPS2U at Ice Cream RaceMax: “We will have a variety of vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, two DJ’s, an interactive photo booth, and much more!”

FGL at Merriweather Post PavillionDMV Country music lovers will flock to Merriweather Post Pavillion for Florida Georgia Line’s concert on May 9th. The dynamic duo is expected to perform their most recent songs that debuted on their latest album, Anything Goes. The supporting acts listed on FGL’s Merriweather lineup will include Thomas Rhett and Frankie Ballard. SCOOPS2U will be making an appetizing appearance with our freshly popped gourmet popcorn and our homemade, premium ice cream sandwiches. Race For Hope

Race For Hope 2014 The Race for Hope is a family 5k race that is dedicated to fundraising for brain tumor research. The race has been an annual tradition since 1998. This year’s race will mark the 18th consecutive race for brain tumor research.

Last year, over 11,500 individuals participated and $2.4 million dollars was donated to help individuals fighting brain tumors! Organizers for the race hope for an even bigger turnout this year!

Race For Hope 2012 with SCOOPS2USCOOPS2U has been a proud sponsor for the past 3 years. At the 2014 Race for Hope, we provided over 12,000 complimentary popsicles to race participants and their families!

We are very much looking forward to attending this year’s race in Washington DC on May 3rd, 2015!

Sam Smith Summer Show

Summer may feel far away but people are already planning what they will do when the warm days arrive. Although we do not know when exactly we will start experiencing warmer weather, we do know one thing for sure: Sam Smith will be serenading a sold out crowd at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, MD on July 24th, 2015.
